Decorating Childrens Playhouse

Decorating Childrens Playhouse

We are currently creating a play area in our garden for Zac and have kindly been *gifted a gorgeous little playhouse from Big Game Hunters. It is the perfect addition to his play area!

The Playhouse

Childrens Playhouse

It is the Evermeadow playhouse and is the perfect size for toddlers (W 105 x D 95 x H 126cm). It comes flat packed but is easily assembled. It is made from natural wood and has 2 little windows and a small door.

The playhouse doesn’t come with a floor but this can be purchased separately.

Painting the Playhouse

We are trying to create a “beachy” vibe for Zac’s play area with lots of bright turquoise blue, so we wanted to re-vamp the playhouse to fit in!

Blue playhouse paint

To create the desired look we used the Johnstones Garden Colour Lagoon Splash to paint the external walls and the flooring inside. We found that it needed two coats to get the desired colour. Below is after just one coat.

Painting Playhouse

We then painted the door, window frames, roof and external walls in Deco Style Matt White Acrylic Paint from Aldi. It was the only matt exterior white wood paint we could find and it covers really well.

White playhouse paint

Painting White Playhouse
We decided to paint the playhouse before we assembled it as we thought this would be easiest. The only difficult bit was working out which parts were going to be on show and which needed to be blue or white!

Blue playhouse

When painting the window frames some of the wood isn’t accessible due to the Perspex window so we had to carefully prise the frame off to be able to paint some areas. This wasn’t too difficult to do and it pushes back together easily.

Decoration

We haven’t added many decorative items to the playhouse yet. So far on the outside we have just added a little door number to the front. This was super cheap from eBay and just sticks on really easy. We chose the number 14 as this is Zac’s birthday.

Playhouse Door Number

Inside we have added a little blue chair. I bought this pre-loved on Facebook market place for £3! But similar ones are available fairly cheap from stores like B&M. We have also put down a door mat to make it feel more homely! And also reduce some muddy footprints!

We still have so many plans for decorating the playhouse:

  • We have started to create flower boxes to go underneath the windows
  • We have small solar lights to go on the outside
  • We have some hanging topiaries to go on the front
  • We have a chalk board and whiteboard to go on the walls on the inside
  • Fairy door to go on the side
  • Curtains for the windows.

There is also a few necessary additions we have discovered we need to make. We are going to felt the roof just to make it really water tight so nothing gets wet inside. We also need to add a lock/latch to the door to stop it blowing in the wind.

Below are the planters we will be using for the flower boxes. They were only £1 each from Poundland!

The End Result

I am so pleased with how the playhouse has turned out so far! Zac absolutely loves it and has even learned to say house!

There is still quite a few finishing touches we need to add so I will update you once those are done!
