Farmers Market Colour Sorting Game Review

Farmers Market Colour Sorting Game Review

Zac was recently gifted a lovely colour sorting game from Learning Resources UK.

It is the Farmers Market Colour Sorting Set and uses different coloured vegetables and fruits to help teach children colours. It is recommend for ages 18 months-6 years.

Farmers Market Colour Sorting Game
The game comes with 5 plastic baskets and accompanying colour stickers. There are two sticker options: Just the colour or the word as well. We chose to use the ones with the words so that we can continue to use the game as Zac gets older and can recognise the words.

The colour categories are:

  • Yellow
  • Red
  • Orange
  • Green
  • Purple

Fruit colour sorting game

There are 5 fruits and vegetables for each colour option. They are plastic and really durable – they are still in perfect condition despite Zac trying to chew some of them!

I love that the game can be used to not only teach about colours but also fruit and vegetable names.

Zac is obviously still a little bit young to use the game properly. He is currently 14 months and so not able to identify or sort the different colours. But it is still a great game to play together. He loves putting all the foods in the different baskets (even if they aren’t always the correct ones). As he picks up each fruit/veg I say the name and the colour (ie. green broccoli). So every time we play together I am teaching him the colours and names.

Green Toy Food

I also make sure that when we are playing I keep putting the same colour fruit/veg in the baskets. This way he will eventually start to recognise that I am matching the colours up.

I think this is a great educational game that has so many uses! Despite it being recommended from 18 months I think it is good practice to start teaching these skills from an early age. Initially it can help to develop their hand eye coordination and practice putting items in the basket. Then it can be used to teach food names and colours. When they are older it can also help with recognising the words and spellings of the colours. Zac also loves playing with the items in his toy kitchen, so great for imaginative play too!

Colour Sorting Game

If you have a little one between the ages of 1-6 years old I think this is a fantastic game! If you are interested in purchasing you can get one HERE.

Learning Resources UK have so many amazing educational games that help children to learn while they play. So definitely take a look at their website!

Hope you have enjoyed our review and found it useful!

Thanks

Mama & Zac

    Loved this!
It’s always fab to have new ways to engage with your child and what toddler doesn’t like putting things in and out of things. It’s even better when you can teach them through play!
