Being pregnant during a pandemic has not been easy. I have had limited midwife support and reduced appointments. At a time where your body is continuously changing and you are carrying the most precious cargo, it is only natural to worry. Whether you are a first time mum or a mum to 5, there will always be questions you have. No two pregnancies are the same, everyone needs support and someone to speak to. That is where Juno, Midwifery In moments service, has been invaluable for me. Juno is a mobile app which allows you to speak directly to expertly qualified midwives and paediatricians. They are committed to connecting mums to midwives.
Easy Set Up
The app is really easy to use! Simply download it from the App Store and then create an account for yourself and a ‘Baby Bump’ profile for bump.. Within your profile you can enter pregnancy, medical and family history. As soon as you have created this you can speak with one of Juno’s team of midwives. You can send a message about absolutely anything, whether it is a medical concern, a symptom you have or just a pregnancy question.
First Experience
The first time I used the service I was really impressed with how quickly I got a response. Within 5 minutes of sending my message I was in a conversation with a qualified midwife! I love that you could tap on the midwifes name to see some more information about the person you’re speaking to. It gives you a small bio and their work history. It is really reassuring to know you are speaking to an actual qualified midwife and not just a computer.
The midwife I spoke to was so friendly and understanding. It was great to be able to have a conversation with her – not just a response to one question. Without Juno I probably wouldn’t have had access to information that would have eased my anxieties. I most likely would have resorted to searching the internet for answers, which is never reliable. Currently because of Covid I do not have a dedicated midwife or a direct contact for someone who knows me and my pregnancy. Even in my first pregnancy there were times where my midwife wouldn’t be working and I couldn’t get a quick answer to my questions.
We recently found out there there is an issue with one of babies kidneys. This means that even though this is my second pregnancy I do worry about a lot of things. Even things I know where normal the first time I was pregnant. Whenever I do have a concern, no matter how big or small, I can text my concern straight away! I don’t have to wait all night worrying, I simply post a message and then a Juno Midwife will get back to me as soon as they can.
Reliable Advice
Unlike Information you find online and on forums, you know the information you are given by a Juno midwife is reliable and up-to-date. They can provide more information or explain things to you if you do not understand. It is a completely personal service that you don’t even need to leave your home for! It is this balance between instant online advice and human interaction that I think makes the app so brilliant.
Early on in my pregnancy I developed Covid and it was so difficult to find reliable information online. I wasn’t able to speak with a midwife despite making phone calls. I wish I would have known about Juno then – It would have really helped to ease my mind!
Paediatric Service
The service doesn’t end once you give birth either. Juno have a team of specialist paediatricians who can answer any queries or concerns you may have about your baby or child. This came in particularly handy for me with my 3 year old son. He woke up one day and I noticed that he had a rash on his body. I was able to send a picture of the rash using Juno’s secure private messaging service and get reassurance instantly. It saved us having to try and get a doctors appointment and all having to leave the house.
Another thing I really like about the Juno app is that it saves your conversation history. Sometimes when you speak to a midwife or doctor, it can be a lot of information to take in. It is great to be able to look back over the conversation just in case there was anything you missed or forgot.
I think the app is really reasonably priced for the service you receive. If you you did want to try the app for yourself then you can download here and get 7 days for free!
