“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax all you need is a book!” – Dr. Seuss
Like most parents, I have always wanted Zac to grow up with a love for books. I believe that reading together from an early age helps to nurture children’s creativity and improve skills such as speech and understanding. Reading to children is so important.
Books2Door are an online book store who stock a huge variety of books for children of all ages, from new born to young adults. We were kindly gifted £55 to spend on their website, so that we could review some of the books available. We chose 2 ‘box sets’ as I think they work out great value for money.
My Thomas Story Library
The first set that we chose was the My Thomas Story Library. Like most little boys Zac loves trains and is completely obessesed with Thomas the Tank Engine, so this set was perfect for him!
The box contains 65 small story books, each book is focused around a different character – who knew there were 65 different characters?! It features all of the trains as well as the Fat Controller, Harold the helicopter and Jeremy the Jet Plane.
The books are the perfect length for a toddler. They are long enough that the story is interesting, but short enough that Zac doesn’t lose interest. They are all really brightly coloured with lovely, detailed illustrations. Zac loves looking at all of the pictures as we read them.
They are paperback books, and so would recommend that they are only used for supervised reading with small children. Both the books and the box can be easily damaged. So we keep the box out of reach and let Zac chose one of the books each night so we can read it together.
A Case of Good Manners
The second set of books we chose is “A Case of Good Manners“. Zac is 2 years old so I thought this handy little set would be great for introducing him to manners and teaching him how to be polite.
The books come in a briefcase style carrier which I thought was really cool! It makes them handy to story away and also take out with you.
It contains 12 small board books, each focusing on a different topic. They are really durable which means that Zac can chose to get these out and play/read them himself.
They cover topics such as saying please, thank you and sorry as well as kindness, confidence and honesty. They explain each topic really well, in a simplified way that is easy for toddlers to understand. Each book also contains tips for parents at the back on how you can reinforce these practices in every day life.
In addition to being reading books, the set also doubles up as a puzzle! On the back of each book is part of the picture and you can place them all together to create the bigger picture.
I am really pleased with the sets that I chose. They worked out great value for money and it was super easy to order them from Books2Door online.
