This year at Christmas Zac will be 21 months old. This will be his 2nd Christmas but I think it will be even more exciting than his first! He is a bit older and so understands that bit more now. He may not understand what Christmas is, why he is getting presents or who Father Christmas is, but he can still feel that excitement and we can see the joy in his face! But what do you buy for a toddler under two? I have found it so much easier buying Christmas gifts this year so thought I would share with you lots of the ideas I have had.
Educational Gifts
I love educational gifts. It is so lovely to see Zac playing with toys that I know are helping his developing and watching him learn new skills. Here are some educational toys which are suitable for toddlers.
Threading Beads
These gorgeous wooden threading beads are from Vertbaudet. They are great for helping toddlers practise their fine motor skills, coordination and dexterity. They come in pretty pastel colours that could also be used to practice colours too! This activity kept Zac occupied for ages, it was amazing him watching try to thread the beads onto the string.
Puzzles
So I didn’t know till recently that large piece puzzles (2 to 3 pieces) are actually suitable from 18 months! They help to build confidence and at this age they understanding piecing things together.
These toddler puzzles were sent to us from Orchard Toys for Zac to try. There are lots of different ones. I think Zac is going to love the dinosaur ones !
Wooden puzzles are also great – we bought these for Zac last year and he already uses these really well.
Clock
Zac loves clocks so I thought this wooden clock from Vertbaudet would be the perfect Christmas gift. It has numbered puzzle pieces so it helps with his coordination and number recognition.
Books
Zac absolutely loves books and I love seeing him read (or at least look at the pictures!). We are huge fans of the Usborne That’s Not Mine touchy feely books. I bought a few more to add to Zac’s collection and also some Thomas the Tank Engine books!
For Christmas Eve we have this beautiful personalised book full of mini Christmas stories from Hooray Heroes. This will go in Zac’s Christmas Eve Box. You can completely customise the book so the character looks like your little one and features their name – you even get to choose the stories included!
Creative Toys
Zac is starting to really enjoy arts and crafts, he absolutely loves drawing and colouring. I wanted to buy him some other toys which would stimulate his creativity.
Zimpli Kids
Zimpli kids sell some great messy play toys, such as gelli baff and slime! These are great for sensory activities, we use ours in a tuff tray rather than in the bath. They also have a cool new chocolate emoji making kit!
Drawing
Zac loves drawing so we have bought him so new crayons and colouring books, but also wanted to get him something different. When I saw this magnetic drawing board and Water Doodle Mat in Homebargains I knew they would be perfect! They make an every day activity a bit more exciting!
Magnets
This is another great way to encourage creativity. Zac loves moving all of the magnets about and sticking them on the board. This cute little magnet board is from Vertbaudet. It is also a carry case so great for travelling, we are going to take it on holiday with us!
Another good idea for a Christmas gift similar to this is stickers! They make a cool stocking filler – what kid doesn’t love stickers!
Character Toys
At this age most kids start to recognise and develop favourite characters from TV shows, movies or songs.
Toy Story
Toy Story 4 came out this year and if Zac wasn’t Toy Story obsessed before he certainly is now! If you follow us on Instagram you will know just how much he loves Toy Story!
So for Christmas he has pretty much got every Toy Story character! From Woody and Buzz to Rex and Forky! He has even got a Buzz Lightyear bubble blower and dressing gown!
Baby Shark
Like most toddlers Zac LOVES the baby shark song, he sings along and even does a little dance! For Christmas he has got the Singing Baby Shark Plush Puppet. The shark sings as you move its mouth – the quicker you move it the faster it sings!
Pretend Play
Zac is at an age know where he is using his imagination for pretend play – making animal noises, pretending to sleep and eat.
Baby doll and Pram
I love the idea of Zac having a little baby to play with. I think it is important for all children to have a toy like this, as it encourages them to be caring. This little boy doll and navy pram is from Vertbaudet, perfect for any little girl or boy!
Shopping Trolley and Till
One of Zac’s First Birthday Presents was a toy kitchen from Ikea. It has been on of the best gifts he has had – he plays with it everyday. So we thought we would add to this with a little shopping trolley and cash register! These gorgeous blue ones are from Matalan, it even comes with some pretend food!
Personalised Baking Set
This gorgeous personalised baking set is from Ooh Darling. It will look gorgeous on Zac’s kitchen and he will love pretending to cook with them! We may even use them when we next bake cakes! It comes in a little metal bucket to store them in – there are lots of colours available!
Animal Figurines
Zac loves animals and he is getting so good at recognising them, saying their names and making their noises. So I thought it would be great to get him some Animal figures to play with. I got a tub of farm animals and a tub of Safari animals in the sale in Matalan!
Wooden Toys
I love wooden toys, I think they look so much nicer than plastic toys and are obviously more environmentally friendly.
Click Clack Car Track
Zac loves cars so this little click clack track from Vertbaudet is perfect, he loves watching the cars slide down the track!
Wooden Stacking Rings
These stacking rings from Vertbaudet are great for babies and toddlers, Zac still really likes playing with stacking rings. Stacking them all up, then tipping them off and starting again! They can be used as they grow as a colour recognition game or learning to do it in size order!
Building Toys
Zac really enjoys building know, he not only understands stacking but actually slotting bricks together.
Lego
So this year we thought it was time for Zac’s first Lego set! Lego Duplo is perfect for toddlers. The large pieces are easy for them to pick up and build with. He is going to love building with them an playing with the Lego people!
Lego Storage Boxes
Once you start buying lego and building blocks you need somewhere to store it all! These Lego Storage boxes from A Place For Everything are perfect! They look great and come in lots of different colours to fit in with you little ones bedroom. Zac loves using them as giant building blocks too!
