Under The Sea Activities

Under The Sea Activities

As Zac get’s older I want to incorporate more activities into our day. He doesn’t go to nursery at the moment, so I am becoming very conscious of the fact that all of his learning and development is completely down to me.

It can be difficult to think of new activities every day, so I decided that each week I would chose a theme and base our daily activities on this.

Our first theme is under the sea. Below are some of the Under the Sea Activities that we have done this week. Some are educational and some are mostly just for fun (but for toddlers, almost all games will have a learning aspect).

Under the Sea Outdoor Painting

Outdoor Painting Easel

Zac was recently sent this gorgeous outdoor easel from Sensory Play Essex. So we chose all of our sea coloured paints (blues, greens and white) and got painting. I let Zac just go for it with the paints, creating a sea coloured backdrop. We then used our Little Brian Paintsticks to draw some sea creatures. I tried to keep showing Zac how I was drawing a simple fish and getting him to copy.

Sea and Land Animals

Under the Sea Animals Activity

My mum bought Zac these really cute sea creature figures from Amazon. So we made the most of the nice weather and got his sandpit out. We filled one half with sand and the other water. We started by naming each of the creatures and then I showed him which ones had to stay in the water and which ones could go on the “beach”.

Under the Sea Pom Pom Tray

Under the Sea Pom Pom Activity

We used Zac’s sea creatures for a fun little sensory play activity. I wasn’t sure if Zac would be a bit too old for this, but he had lots of fun playing with the creatures, making them swim through the pom poms. We then got out his Learning Resources tweezers and he practised picking all of the pom poms up and putting them in a bucket.

Under the Sea Sticker Scene

Under the Sea Stickers

I ordered this under the sea sticker activity from Baker Ross. Zac loves stickers so this was a fun little activity for him. It kept him occupied for quite a while peeling the stickers off and creating a little under the sea scene.

Under the Sea Colouring In

A nice and simple activity. I downloaded some sea themed colouring in pages from Twinkl and printed them out for Zac to colour in. Again we identified the animals, saying the names and then coloured them in. Zac is starting to really take his time with his colouring in and makes attempts to stay within the lines.

Fish Handprint Puppets

I love any crafts which involve Zac’s little handprints! These puppets are so easy to make, I simply drew around Zac’s hand on a piece of card and cut it out. We got out lots of our craft supplies so Zac could get creative and decorate his fish. Then I just stuck them onto some lollipop sticks and voila fish handprint puppets.

Under The Sea Books

Every night before bed we read Zac a bedtime story, so this week I chose an under the sea themed book! We read The Snail and the Whale, The Disco Fish,

I really enjoyed thinking of lots of fishy themed activities for us to do! It was great to have a prompt to get me thinking. Take a look at my Under The Sea Activities Pinterest Board for some more activities!

You can click here for lots of great sensory bin activities too!

Thanks for reading!
