What to do with Baby Clothes

It is a question that every parent needs to ask themselves – What do I do with all of those cute newborn clothes?

They grow out of them so quick, yet they hold so much sentimental value!

I kept a few really sentimental bits such as his first outfit and the handknit cardigans my nan made for him. They are safely stored away in a memory box. I am hoping to re-use the handknitted bits if we have another baby.

I was actually quite good and sold most of Zac’s baby clothes which were 3 months+, a lot of them were like new!

Why I sold a lot of Zac’s clothes

A lot of people struggle to sell any of their babies clothes. Either because they can’t bring themselves to let them go or because they want to save them for the next baby. Here is why I didn’t:

  • We found out Zac’s gender at our 20 week scan – so there is almost nothing which is gender neutral, so no good if we have a girl next.
  • Zac had soooo many clothes – where would I even store all of them if I kept them?!
  • I loved the excitement of buying those cute little baby clothes and I want to have that experience again next time too.
  • The money from selling them comes in pretty handy for buying those next size up clothes!

However, I didn’t sell Zac’s newborn clothes. I couldn’t bring myself to sell those tiny little newborn babygrows. Some of them held such sentimental value – for example the little striped babygrow he wore when he was admitted to a&e at 13 hours old. I don’t have a clear photo of it but it had the cutest little bear pocket on the front.

I didn’t want them to just sit in a box in the loft for years – I know I won’t reuse them. But I did want to keep them and be able to look at them and be reminded of all those newborn memories.

Memory Keepsake out of Baby Clothes

So I decided I wanted to have them made into a memory keepsake. After a lot of searching on Pinterest I saw that they could be made into either:

  1. A Memory Blanket
  2. A Memory Bear

I absolutely fell in love with the memory bears. I thought that it was a beautiful way for all of those little clothes to be displayed.

After some scrolling I cam across Made Just Sew on Instagram. She makes the most beautiful memory bears! I loved that she also offers an embroidery option where you can not only add their name and date of birth but she can also embroider their hand and foot prints onto the bear!

She puts so much thought into every bear she makes. She made sure to use and showcase all the beautiful details from each baby grow I sent her. This included cutting out small details/images and sewing those separately such as the cloud with his year of birth and a little patch that said mummy’s little star.

Memory Bear Leg

My favourite part of the whole bear is the little pocket which I spoke about earlier! She featured this beautifully on the bears head.

I was overwhelmed with just how beautiful this bear is. It is also much bigger than I expected! It will proudly sit on display In our home.

This makes such a good read, with Joshua’s first month of clothes we chose outfits which had a memory linked to them and then got them made into a memory blanket. Such a lovely memory to have and to be able to share with Joshua when he’s a little older. He’ll be able to keep it when he’s a lovely young man too!
