18 Month Update

18 Month Update

I can’t quite believe my baby is 18 months old, a year and a half he has been in our lives! He is now officially closer to two than he is one and that makes me so sad!! I feel like since he turned one he has changed so much, he amazes me every day. So I thought I would do a little post just to mark all of his achievements and keep a record of everything he can do at this age. It all goes so fast that sometimes it is difficult to remember everything.

At 18 months old Zac weighs 28lbs 9oz and has 16 teeth (I think haha).

Walking

Toddler Running

On his first birthday Zac could stand but not walk unaided. He could walk with a walker or holding onto someone’s hands. Now we are not only walking but full on running! I can’t quite believe just how fast he is sometimes. He has also started walking and holding our hand which is so cute! Only downside is now he absolutely hates being in his pram – so shopping trips are fun!

Climbing

Toddler Climbing

He is a typical little boy and loves climbing. On the sofa, the windowsills, his toy kitchen, the stair gate, you name it he can climb up it. He is actually pretty good at climbing and rarely falls but it doesn’t stop my stomach turning every time! He has started trying to climb up his cot so I don’t think it will be long till we are moving him into a big boy bed!

Talking

This is probably one of the biggest changes I have noticed. When Zac had his 1 year review (he was actually 10 months) the only section he didn’t score highly on was his communication and speech. When he turned one his main word was “wow” – this is all we heard all day every day. He could also say “mum”, “dad”, “bye” but didn’t say them a lot.

Now I think we are at about 40+ words! He recognises and identifies animals such as cow, dog, cat, fish, birdie. And he can make all the sounds too! I love his little fish sound.

He clearly says “mum” and “dad” all the time now as well as “nanny”, “grandad” and “Tom” (His uncle).

He sings a long to songs and nursery rhymes, his favourite is row row your boat (He can only say the “row row” bit)

We have also started counting – obviously he cant actually count objects but if I say “one” he says “two”, if I then say “three” he says “four”, if I say “five” he says “six”. Only downside to this is if I am not counting with him and filling in the numbers in between he just shouts “TWO FOUR SIX” haha.

One of the cutest things he says at the moment is “cuddle”, it melts my heart every time he says it and gives me a big cuddle.

He is now even starting to put words together! He sometimes says “bye mum” or “bye dad”.

He does say things like “get down” and “there it is” but that is more repeating the whole phrase rather than putting the words together himself.

He absolutely loves looking at books, pointing everything out and saying the words!

Toddler Reading

Personality

He has developed the funniest and most cheekiest little personality. He plays games like peek a boo and likes chasing people around. He even pretends to sleep now, making little pretend snoring sounds!

One of the things that makes me the most proud is how he has grown in confidence. For his 1st birthday we had a soft play party but Zac spent the entire time being held and crying. He really struggled with loud noises and being around lots of people. He found it all overwhelming and scary.

I used to regularly take him to sensory classes and soft play, but he would spend the whole time glued to me.

Now it is a completely different story! He cannot wait to get down and run off. He jumps in the ball pit and climbs up everywhere – he isn’t scared of anything or anyone! It makes me so so proud seeing him off playing on his own and with other children.

Toddler Soft Play

From 12-18 months I think I have seen the biggest change in Zac, I can’t wait to see what the next 6 months brings!

Thanks for reading
